Characterization of uncertainty in maximum tidal elevation near Bangladesh coastline due to uncertain sea level rise

چکیده
The Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna delta is vulnerable to sea level rise from global warming. Based on predictions for the year 2100 given in 6th Assessment Report by Intergovernmental Panel Climate Change (IPCC), we examine effect of uncertainty maximum tidal elevation statistics at several locations along Bangladesh coastline using a discretized derived distribution approach. For five IPCC scenarios, standard deviation including predicted increase between 3% and 61% three different 41% mean rise. By excluding linear rise, found vary spatially 2% 68% with

Characterizing uncertain sea-level rise projections to support investment decisions
Many institutions worldwide are considering how to include uncertainty about future changes in sea-levels and storm surges into their investment decisions regarding large capital infrastructures. Here we examine how to characterize deeply uncertain climate change projections to support such decisions using Robust Decision Making analysis. We address questions regarding how to confront the poten...
متن کاملUncertainty in future regional sea level rise due to internal climate variability
[1] Sea level rise (SLR) is an inescapable consequence of increasing greenhouse gas concentrations, with potentially harmful effects on human populations in coastal and island regions. Observational evidence indicates that global sea level has risen in the 20th century, and climate models project an acceleration of this trend in the coming decades. Here we analyze rates of future SLR on regiona...
متن کاملSvalbard glacier elevation changes and contribution to sea level rise
[1] We compare satellite altimetry from the Ice, Cloud, and Land Elevation Satellite (ICESat, 2003–2007) to older topographic maps and digital elevation models (1965– 1990) to calculate long-term elevation changes of glaciers on the Svalbard Archipelago. Results indicate significant thinning at most glacier fronts with either slight thinning or thickening in the accumulation areas, except for g...
متن کاملSEA-LEVEL RISE. Sea-level rise due to polar ice-sheet mass loss during past warm periods.
Interdisciplinary studies of geologic archives have ushered in a new era of deciphering magnitudes, rates, and sources of sea-level rise from polar ice-sheet loss during past warm periods. Accounting for glacial isostatic processes helps to reconcile spatial variability in peak sea level during marine isotope stages 5e and 11, when the global mean reached 6 to 9 meters and 6 to 13 meters higher...
متن کاملElevated CO2 stimulates marsh elevation gain, counterbalancing sea-level rise.
Tidal wetlands experiencing increased rates of sea-level rise (SLR) must increase rates of soil elevation gain to avoid permanent conversion to open water. The maximal rate of SLR that these ecosystems can tolerate depends partly on mineral sediment deposition, but the accumulation of organic matter is equally important for many wetlands. Plant productivity drives organic matter dynamics and is...
